CONCLUSION
Semester two has been an exciting faced paced few months with bigger projects, live clients and high expectations. Although it has been hard work, it has been extremely enjoyable experience; getting to know my peers more, learning new areas of business, culture and technology and meeting new internal and external partners of Northumbria. Reflecting after such a busy few months has proved difficult on occasion as there is so much to recall, but compiling all this information in this website has really got me thinking about my most significant learning. Whilst working on the projects, I constantly have in my mind the end result, seeing this as the most integral part of the task. In truth, it is the journey I take to achieving my final goal that is most valuable to my learning, not the polished outcome. In hindsight, I would have kept a more detailed journal in addition to my photo diary to ensure no part of the project was forgotten; luckily for me I have great peers with good memories.
My learning this semester has been different to my learning in semester one, I feel that the initial semester was about wide learning, covering a wider variety of topics on the surface. This semester however has gone deep, deeper learning and understanding of my roles and responsibilities as a multidisciplinary designer. All this knowledge combined allows me to better understand how this wisdom can be applied to my future carrier.
Each module has developed me as a professional hugely this semester, and the learning from each it difficult to be summarized in one statement. Planning and professionalism has begun shaping me into a business minded designer, considering the full strategy and implementation of the product within a business. I feel more confident in my knowledge and understanding of the business world than ever. Self and Community has given me the confidence to revamp my CV and start applying for international jobs, as I now feel I better understand professional culture. In addition this module has put my focus on leadership, making me deeply evaluate what is the difference between and manager and a leader and what makes a leader stand out from the crowd. Science and technology has introduced me into new areas of technologies I didn’t fully understand but had the opportunity to grasp, whilst underpinning the importance of keeping up to date with all modern technical advancements. Methods and communications has encouraged me to dig deep into my project processes, my decision making, and the effect this had on the results. I now take a much more measured approach to a new project considering methods and communications at all times.
There will be more learning to come out of this semester than I have even realized, and it might not seem apparent until the next semester or during my carrier; but by taking on these projects and new challenges, MDI persistently keeps me guessing. There is never a similar project, client, output or journey; never a dull moment as a multidisciplinary innovator!
